P.O.D.S.
would like to thank the Lewisville Public Library for their support and enthusiasm
in building a special area dedicated to the special needs of our Dyslexic
students and parents.
The primary objective
is to help our children build a long-term positive relationship with the library
to help the child feel comfortable using the library the DYSLEXIC way and
make it a FUN place to be while creating a habit of turning to the library to meet
their academics needs, now, during higher education and future careers.
The secondary objective is to offer a central location for parents and children
to access resources such as books, videos, books on tapes and various tools.
Over the next few years, P.O.D.S.
and L.I.S.D will be working in conjunction with the Lewisville Main Library to
accomplish the following.
- The
library staff will work with the LISD MTA staff to better understand the
needs of a dyslexic student as it relates to the use of the library and
learn how the library can better accommodate those special needs.
- The library staff will be
available meeting night to work with our children while the parents are
participating in the P.O.D.S. meetings.
- LISD will share
their current library of resources being held in the L.I.S.D. M.T.A. Progam
with the library making them more accessible to the P.O.D.S. membership and
public.
- The
library has agreed to purchase material and tools upon our request through "The
Friends of the Library". Along with the money we raise in P.O.D.S., the
"FRIENDS of the Library" will assist by adding funds as well as
contributions by Lewisville Public Library.
- Any
material we purchase will have a THANK YOU P.O.D.S. note in the front or some thing
we agree upon to help raise awareness to our group.
-
The library has set up computers with the
KURZWEIL system. The system went live this summer.
- We
will be meeting at the MAIN Library in Lewisville. All meetings will be open
to the public and our children will be encouraged to come.
